A reminder once again that DUES ARE NOW DUE. Those who have not renewed by January 31st will be charged a late fee of $5.00. Please bring a completed copy of the ONT 14 Membership Renewal Form, along with your dues payment to the meeting scheduled for THURSDAY, JANUARY 15, 2009, 19:30 HRS @ Station 19 (Mout Hope). If you cannot attend this meeting, please pass your form and payment onto one of the other members, or of course there is always the other logical option of mailing in your dues so you don't have to pay the late fee.

A reminder to all that  ONT 14 is the host for the 2009 Association 6 Provincial Convention. Our planning committee has been very active in planning this important event. You as a member of ONT 14 are expected to do your part in making this a memorial event for all attendees from across the Province. This will involve not only your attendance at the Convention, but "stepping up to the plate" when asked to help out in whatever respect. Further info will be provided at the upcoming meeting scheduled for THURSDAY, JANUARY 15, 2009, 19:30 HRS @ Station 19 (Mout Hope). See you all there!

As a result of recent decision by the RKMC International Executive, coupled with the somewhat equivalent value between the U.S. and Canadian dollars; the sale price of RKMC regalia has been reduced. Should the Canadian dollar drop substantially in value, we may find it necessary to once again adjust prices. Please ensure that when ordering any merchandise through our Chapter that you have downloaded the latest version of our merchandise order form so that you have the current sale prices.

TOMA "Ride for Burned Kids"
This year's TOMA Ride was a resounding success. In total over $20,500 were raised this year, which is approximately $2,000 more than last year. Although the weather was not exactly in our favour once again, there were still about 200 riders in attendance. The TOMA Ride continues to be one of the favourite charity rides in this area and will no doubt continue to grow each year.

The 1st annual Jennifer Sultana Memorial Award, given to the rider with the highest amount of pledges, was presented to Red Knights - Chapter 14 member, JIM CAMPBELL who with his hard work was able to raise $1,617 for the TOMA Foundation. CONGRATULATIONS JIM !!!

It should be noted that the 2007 TOMA Ride will be a milestone in that it will be the 5th Annual Ride, and the 10th Anniversary of the TOMA Foundation for Burned Children. It will be a challenge, but the planning committee will be working hard over the next eleven months to make the 2007 ride a truly memorable event. PD 13

The recent Port Dover, Friday the 13th (PD 13) ride was certainly a frosty one by all reports. Although I was unable to attend this year's event due to my recent injury; from the various reports I've received back from our members it would seem that we had a total of seventeen die-hard Red Knight - Chapter 14 members in attendance at this year's event. Four of the gang had a very frosty ride in from Paris. It's easy to loose your friends in the masses that typically show up at PD 13 (this year's estimate was 5,000) so apparently not all of the members managed to actually "eyeball" one another so it seems. A few of those in attendance were interviewed on CH-TV News and were able to provided some good media coverage for our Chapter and the Red Knights collectively. Well done!

MEETINGS
Soon it will be time for most of us (with the exception of the real die-hards) to pack our bikes away for the winter months and continue on with the other Chapter activities that sustain us, namely our monthly administrative meetings. Although they're not quite as much fun as actually being astride your bike and enjoying a ride with our fellow members, they are still an important part of our club, allowing us to take care of numerous issues in preparation for next Spring. Last year we had a number of members attend our meetings, sometimes to the point of spilling out into the hallway. I hope that we once again experience the same level of interest and dedication from our membership. At the time of this writing, the date of our first scheduled meeting of the season has not been set, so stay tuned to our web page for updates.

WEB PAGE
Our web page continues to be our primary means of communication throughout our Chapter. With frequent updates everyone is easily able to stay up to date on what's going on. I welcome any suggestions for content to our page, so don't be shy, bring your suggestions forward to me.

See you all at our meeting.

Jim.

2 May, 2006

Our 2006 riding season got off to a great start!  A dozen of our members met at Station 21 (Ancaster) and rode to the Paris Fire Station where we linked up with several other members from the Paris area. We were graciously invited up to the lounge area of the Station where we enjoyed a libation and some good conversation. After a short visit, we mounted up and were led on a great ride through the Brant County area by some of the local fellas. Beautiful country for sure! Although it got a tad chilly on the ride home, everyone had a great time. We're looking forward to our next ride.

5 February, 2006

This past January 28th, Kevin Hodges (Chapter Treasurer) and I  attended the first RKMC Ontario Chapter President's Meeting in Niagara Falls. The majority of Ontario Chapters were represented. There were a number items that were discussed, but the main agenda item was discussion relating to the creation of a Provincial Association which would by design, represent all Ontario Chapters at the International level. The Meeting Minutes which are in PDF format, can be viewed here Meeting Minutes . After discussing the details relating to the creation of a Provincial body, it was agreed that we should proceed. Elections were held for the various executive positions for the RKMC Ontario Provincial Association.
Following were the results;

President - Henry Heideman (ONT 13)
Vice President - Jim Friend (ONT 14)
Secretary - Norm Clapham (ONT 1)
Treasurer - Mike Wilkins (ONT 2)
Road Captain - Wylie Welsh (ONT 12)

The newly elected Provincial Executive will meet this coming June 24th in Milton.

Chapter 14 - Hamilton Membership Update

I'm pleased to report that our chapter membership numbers are doing quite well. At this time we have a total of thirty-eight (38) paid members, with a few members from last year who have indicated their intent to renew.

Crest Orders

We will be placing a crest order very soon. If you wish to be included in this order, it must be received by no later than 17 FEBRUARY.

19 November, 2005

Our 2005 riding season for the most part is now behind us, and our thoughts turn to putting our bikes away for the winter months. Although we will not be actively riding, there is still a lot of work to be done as it relates to our Chapter. Over the winter we will be holding regular monthly meetings at Station 18 where we will attend to the administrative duties and planning for next year's activities. A couple of main issues that must be attended to over the next few months is finalizing our Chapter Constitution and the holding of elections for the various Executive positions. Elections will be held for the positions of President, Vice-President, Road Captain, Secretary, and Treasurer. All members are encouraged to consider running for these positions. Our Chapter is only as strong as its Executive.

Our next meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, November 30th @ 19:30 hrs at Station 18 (Binbrook). Please mark your calendars and be sure to attend.

27 September, 2005

As most of you are aware at this time, there was unfortunately a tragic accident which occurred during the recent TOMA "Ride for Burned Kids".  Jennifer Sultana, member of the Southern Cruisers Riding Club, and mother of two kids, died as a result of a collision.

Jennifer will be resting at the Andrew's Funeral Home, 8190 Dixie Rd., Brampton on Wednesday, 28 September from 14:00 to 16:00 hrs, and from 19:00 to 21:00 hrs.  A memorial service is planned for Thursday, 29 September at 11:00 hrs.

Our sincerest condolences go out to Jennifer's family and friends.

31 August, 2005

The  TOMA Ride for Burned Kids is only 25 days away (ride date - Sunday, 25 September) and we've been very busy assisting the organizers of the event with the layout of Bay Front Park, sponsors, food vendors, etc. A few of our Chapter members have really stepped up  to the plate to assist with several donations to help fill up the grab bags that every rider will be handed. I met with Bruce Peacock (RKMC Chapter 1 - Toronto) and Murray Cole (our Chapter) to check out all 112 kms of the ride route. It 's a very nice route that's been laid out and should be a blast with approximately 600 bikes rumbling down the road!

If you haven't already done so, please visit the TOMA web site and pre-register for the ride. It only costs $15.00.  As we get a bit closer to the event, I'll be looking for about 6 or 8 guys to assist as guides at each of the turn points along the 2nd leg of the route between the Country Heritage Museum on Tremaine Road and Bay Front Park that our Chapter is responsible for (RKMC Chapter 1 Toronto is taking care of the 1st leg of the route).

As you're already aware, we have asked Dan McLean (CH - TV) to be an Honourary Member of our Chapter, and he has agreed. We've acquired his RKMC crest set and it is presently in the process of being sewn on his vest. We will be "officially" presenting it to him prior to the TOMA ride (hopefully on "CH Morning Live") so he can wear it proudly during the TOMA ride.  I bet Derringer is going to be jealous!

22 August, 2005

We've fallen a bit behind in updates of the web page, etc as I've been away on holidays and a business trip over the past few weeks. The action is starting to heat up once again, as there's lots to keep us busy with the Chapter, and still several weeks of riding left in the season.

RKMC Convention (Toronto)  -  Recently had communication with some members of other Chapters who attended the annual convention in Toronto this past week. There were about 130 delegates who attended from all over North America. By all reports everyone had a great time, although it was a tad damp.

Fisherville Poker Run, 20 August - I heard that the Fisherville Poker Run went off not too badly. The weather wasn't the greatest so it seems, but they somehow managed to restrict the rain showers to the times when they we're stopped for lunch, etc.  Reports indicate that they broke even on the costs for running the event. A good effort for a first time annual event. Lets hope that next year is even better.

CRESTS - We're now in the process of distributing the crests  that our members previously ordered. We're about 1/2 way done at this time, but will be looking to link up with the remaining members who have not yet received their orders, over the next week or two.  For any of you who have not as of yet placed an order for crests; I would like to submit an order to the RKMC Quartermaster soon. Please keep in mind that it takes approximately 6 to 8 weeks to receive the order. An updated order form has been posted on our web site, so please check it out, print off a copy of the form, complete it, and forward the completed copy to my attention (address on the form), accompanied by a cheque payable to "Red Knights - Hamilton".

TOMA "Ride for Burned Kids" - Please keep the date for the TOMA ride clear in your calendars. The ride takes place on Sunday, September 25th, starting at Islington Ave & Hwy 401 and ending at Bay Front Park in Hamilton.  Chapter 14 has the honour of escorting Dan McLean (CH-TV) to the start point. I hope that everyone has their colours proudly displayed during the ride. I know Dan will, as we will be holding an official ceremony soon for Dan to induct him as Honourary Member of our Chapter. Further details to follow.

Jim.

2 August, 2005

Our crest order has arrived at it's mailing destination. Rick (VP) will be heading down to pick up the order and return hopefully in the next week or so. As soon as I have the packages and have had a chance to sort out the contents, I will be in touch with the members who placed a crest order.

Jim

30 July, 2005

I'm pleased to report that with our total membership of 48 members; that Chapter 14 is now officially the largest RKMC chapter in the Province of Ontario!  Although this is a substantial accomplishment for the short period of three months that we have been in existence, our challenge will be to retain our members over the coming months.  I believe that this can be accomplished by focusing on the basic premise of what the Red Knights is all about.....the Brotherhood and Riding.  As President, my intent is to keep the administrative and political issues to a minimum and focus on the basic goals of the RKMC. With the assistance and cooperation of our Chapter membership, I know that we can be not only the largest, but the best Chapter in the Province.

Jim
